White water rafting isn’t just a summer activity—in fact, winter brings its own brand of magic to the rivers of New Zealand. With mist rising from the water, fewer crowds, and adrenaline-pumping rapids, rafting in the cooler months is an experience you won’t forget.
Winter means less traffic on the river. You’ll enjoy a more personal adventure, surrounded by native bush, birdsong, and the thunder of rapids—without the summer crowds.
The Kaituna River transforms in winter. Cool mist drapes over the gorge, creating a surreal, almost cinematic backdrop as you drop over world-famous waterfalls
Winter rainfall brings the river to life. The Kaituna is at its boldest, offering dynamic, fast-moving water that raises the heart rate—in the best way.
We operate primarily on the Kaituna River (Ōkere Awa), home to Tutea Falls, the world’s highest commercially rafted waterfall at 7 meters. This iconic Grade 5 section packs an unbeatable mix of big drops, playful rapids, and lush, jungle-like scenery.
If the Kaituna River is flowing too high for safety, we shift operations to the Rangitaiki River—a longer, scenic Grade 3-4 trip that’s equally rewarding and ideal for keeping the stoke high even when the weather pushes us elsewhere.
You heard it right, after your trip, we have hot showers and our newest addition - the sauna. The ONLY company who offers a sauna after rafting in Rotorua...
We specialise in the Kaituna. Our guides are some of the most experienced on this river, and we’ve dialed in the winter rafting experience to perfection. Whether you're dropping waterfalls or cruising scenic stretches, we guarantee an epic trip that blends natural beauty, cultural significance, and pure adrenaline.
